My name is Dr. Mia-Francesca Jones, and I am a writer, researcher and producer with a PhD in creative environmental communication. My work explores homesickness, climate change, motherhood and meteorology.

In 2025, I was awarded the Mick Dark Flagship Fellow for Outstanding Environmental Writing by Varuna National Writers’ House. An extract of my work-in-progress was commended for the Peter Blazey Fellowship by the University of Melbourne. The judges notes were that the work:

“…thoughtfully winds ecological impacts of light pollution with an autobiographical narrative of loss. ‘How do we find the light in grief? How do we find the light on a dying planet?’ An incisive exploration of contemporary crises … promises to be a powerful and necessary contribution to Australian non-fiction.”
